Should The Dolphins Draft Bo Nix?

Why Would The Dolphins Move Off Tua?

The Dolphins have lost in the first round of the playoffs for the 2nd season in a row. Except this time, it’s the last year of Tua being on his rookie contract. At the same time, Tua had excellent regular season numbers with 4624 yards, 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a 60.7 QBR, according to ESPN. So why should the Dolphins move off Tua?

Tua's Weak Points

Tua has only beaten one good team all year. They lose whenever they play a team like the Chiefs, Ravens, Bill, or 49ers. And a lot of the games they lose, they lose by a tone. A big reason for the Dolphins not being able to compete with these better teams is because of Tua. Tua is a very one-dimensional quarterback. It took Mike McDaniels to rework the offense and add guys with elite speed who can get yards after catch to make Tua look this good. Yes, Tua is accurate over the middle and quickly gets the ball out. He can only extend the play when the first or second read is there. There are too many times against good teams that figure him out, cover over the middle, and bottle him up. He cannot move the pocket, run for yards, or force contested ball for completions. They allow the defense to have seven guys sitting in coverage while the pass rush gets to him within 3 seconds. And he, for whatever reason, does not get rid of the ball in time. They are leading to sacks, interceptions, or fumbles. It’s time the Dolphins move on and take this offense to the next level. So why should the next guy be Bo Nix?

What Makes Bo Nix Better?

The truth is only a little makes Bo Nix better than Tua. What makes him better for the Dolphins, however, is he is a lot like Tua. It could be better accuracy because only a few quarterbacks do. However, he can escape the pocket and make things happen with his legs. He was very experienced as he set the record for most games starting at the Power 5 level for a quarterback. The contract is the best part about drafting Bo Nix in the late first or early second rounds. Five years of control on a cheap contract that allows the Dolphins to add more pieces and extend Jaylen Waddle and Jevon Holland. This may not seem like the sexiest pick; however, if the Dolphins could somehow trade up to the 2nd or 3rd pick in the draft and get a guy like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, that would be fantastic. Bo Nix was great at Oregon, and if anyone is interested in seeing how he plays, look up Bo Nix’s highlights; he is just a more athletic Tua at Oregon. That’s why the Dolphins need to draft him.

The Wrap UP

Even though many Dolphins fans will not like the idea of parting ways with Tua, a guy the fanbase has come to love, it’s clear the Dolphins will never win a Superbowl with him. It’s going to have to be someone else. So make sure to like and follow for more Dolphins news and updates. Finally, comment on what the Dolphins should do in their current quarterback situation.
